Panther
The Panther tank was built in 1943 a little late than the Tiger, it had a better engine some say it has a better gun and radio too. When it entered service its first appearance is quite scary, the German counter-attack on Kursk was delayed for 2 months because Hitler waits for the arrival of the Panther and it only gives time for Stalin to get ready. Unlike the Tiger, the panther was not underpowered and lighter than the Tiger.
Tiger
The Tiger 1 was built in 1942 a year earlier than the
Panther; the Tiger 1 not only had a good gun it was armed with the most
successful German anti-air and tank gun of the war the 88mm. Unlike the Panther, the Tiger 1’s frontal armor is vertical than the panthers sloped one, the Tiger
1 is like a running box and can be penetrated by the enemy on all sides of the
tank well think again. The Tiger 1 is quite underpowered, the engine is used is
designed to power a 35-ton tank only not a 57 ton Tiger.
Armament
Panther
The Panther was armed with the 7.5cm KwK L/70 gun which is
good at its time but never as accurate as of the Tiger and also 2 MG 34 machine
gun (One coaxial in the mantlet and the other in a bull turret in the hull). The
panther may be equipped with a gun unlike the Tiger it still brings fear to the
allied tankers.
Tiger
The Tiger 1 was armed with the 8.8cm KwK 36 gun that is
designed to be an anti-tank and air gun of the German army, the tank was armed
with 2 MG 34 or 42 (One coaxial in the mantlet and the other in a bull turret
in the hull). The gun was so accurate that can destroy any allied tank of WW2.
The Tiger 1 gunner Balthasar Woll was able to fire on the move and destroys a
tank with one shell with the help of his skilled commander Michael Wittmann.
The Tiger 1’s gun was the most powerful one ever put on a tank.
Armor
Panther
The Panther’s armor is sloped unlike the Tiger’s armor, The
frontal hull armor was 80mm thick angled 55 degrees; the sides were thin only
40-50mm to reduce the weight of the tank. This made the Panther very vulnerable
to be flanked by its sides and can be penetrated by any allied anti-tank rifles
and anti-tank guns.
Tiger
The Tiger 1’s armor was very impressive, the frontal armor
was up to 100mm thick and 80mm thick on its sides and rear but the gun mantlet
was the thickest armored part of the tank 120mm. this made the Tiger nearly
impenetrable to allied tankers and anti-tank guns, even if the Tiger is flanked
the side armor was thick enough to withstand a 75mm shell.
Weight
Panther
The Panther only weighed 44.8 tons because of the lighter
armor, it made the Panther very mobile, unlike the Tiger. The Panther isn’t
having any problems while crossing a bridge and crossing rough terrain, the
Panther can’t be easy gets stuck in the mud.
Tiger
The Tiger 1 weighed 57 tons because it is heavily armored; it
made the Tiger not as mobile as the Panther. The Tiger 1 had to be specialized
when getting ready to be deployed on all fronts. The Tiger 1 sometimes needed
to be put with a snorkel to cross rivers and the Tiger can easily get stuck in
mud especially on the Russian soils.
Size
Panther
The Panther had a height of 2.99m a length of 6.87m and had a
width of 3.27m. The Panther is actually bigger than the Tiger, the cupola made
it look bigger. The Panther may be bigger than the Tiger but it is very
mobile than the Tiger.
Tiger
The Tiger 1 is 3.0m high, 6.316m long, and 3.56m wide. When
the Tiger is equipped with the bigger cupola, it will be as big as the Panther.
